H.E. Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of the EU visits Malacañang Palace!
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Her Excellency Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, witness the signing of a bilateral agreement on the Joint Declaration on the Green Economy Program between the Philippines and the European Union (EU) in a ceremony at the President’s Hall in Malacañan Palace on July 31, 2023.
Signatories of the bilateral agreement are Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga and Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to the Philippines Luc Veron.
Prior to the ceremonial signing, the two leaders held a bilateral meeting to discuss mutual interests in trade, investment and cooperation within the Global Gateway strategy. This strategy aims to address the partner countries’ infrastructure needs in the digital, energy and transportation sectors while addressing the most pressing global challenges, particularly in narrowing the global investment gap.
President von der Leyen is also scheduled to meet with House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri. In addition, she will be holding a speaking engagement at a high-level business event organized by the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines in partnership with the Makati Business Club.
